Why I work outside insurance
No diagnosis required in order to be seen. No treatment decisions made by a claims reviewer who has never met you. No record of therapy sent to your insurer. For some of my clients, particularly first responders, that last one is the whole reason they chose private pay.
It also means I keep a small caseload on purpose. You are not slot 34 of 40.
Out of network reimbursement
Many plans reimburse 50 to 80 percent of session fees for out of network mental health care, depending on your plan. I provide a superbill after every session and I can walk you through submitting it.
If you want to check before we start, call the member line on the back of your insurance card and ask about out of network telehealth mental health benefits. Ask what your deductible is, what percentage they reimburse, and whether they require pre-authorization.
If a claim gets denied, I will give you the documentation you need to appeal. Denials are usually about paperwork technicalities rather than actual coverage, and most appeals succeed.
Payment
- Credit and debit cards
- HSA and FSA cards
- ACH transfer
You will receive an invoice after each session. Payment is due at the time of service and may be billed up to 24 hours in advance.
Cancellation
- 24 hours notice or more: no charge
- Less than 24 hours: billed at the session rate
- No show: billed at the session rate
Life happens. One missed appointment will not end our work together. But I do ask for respect for the time I hold for you.
Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost. You will receive one before your first session, and any time you request it after that.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute it. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
